It’s September 19, and the very first emoticons were recorded on this day in 1982.  Scott Fahlman, a computer scientist and professor at Carnegie-Mellon University, included : – ) and : – ( on a message board, and 43 years later emoticons and emojis are used quite often in communication.  There are different forms of communication, however, and when you write us emails or letters or send in essays in your homeschool middle school courses or homeschool high school courses, we ask that you write clearly and formally and do not include emoticons or emojis if at all possible.  Doing so will allow us to serve you better and more quickly.  Thank you for understanding and please know that we are happy to serve you.
