It’s September 27, and on this date in 1822, Jean-Francois Champollion announced that he had deciphered the Rosetta Stone. The original Rosetta Stone contained numerous Egyptian hieroglyphics, but nobody knew for sure what they meant until Champollion came along. He figured out what the symbols meant and unlocked Egyptian history in the process. You might be more familiar with the term Rosetta Stone because we offer more than 20 different world languages through a partnership with the company that shares its name with the ancient object Champollion deciphered.
