Today’s Anniversary: Sports Illustrated

It’s August 16, and the first issue of Sports Illustrated was published on this date in 1954. One of the most popular features of Sports Illustrated is Faces in the Crowd, which highlights up and coming athletes from towns across the United States. In the September 9, 2013 issue, American School student Garrett Smith was featured in Faces in the Crowd. Garrett scored 1690 points in six events at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and became the first three-time All-Around Cowboy in the event’s 65-year history. Those of us who work at American School are proud of Garrett for his accomplishments and we are proud of students who take our accredited middle school courses and accredited high school courses and then go on to have success in whatever fields they pursue. I found all the material and methods extremely satisfying. It made the classes simple enough to learn while still being able to enjoy the process!
