It’s May 4, and Ernest Hemingway’s novel The Old Man and the Sea won a Pulitzer Prize on this day in 1953. We mention this today because the novel is featured in our American Literature course. It’s one of several paper-based high school courses that homeschool students take as part of our accredited high school program or independent study program. In our literature courses our students have the opportunity to read legendary works by some of the world’s best-known authors, and in American Literature our students have the opportunity to analyze The Old Man and the Sea as part of the class.
