It’s February 12, and Abraham Lincoln was born on this date in 1809. It’s the perfect day to spotlight the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Museum in Springfield, Illinois. Several years ago, American School employees visited the downstate library and museum and appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the 16th President of the United States. In reality, though, they didn’t have to travel very far to be reminded of Abraham Lincoln because there is a bust of him in our library here at American School. Although Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky and grew up in Indiana, he spent most of his adult life in Illinois, and so our home state is sometimes referred to as the Land of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln is featured prominently in our Social Studies 8 (American History), United States History and United States History (online) courses. They are required courses for many students in our accredited middle school program or accredited high school program, or they may be taken individually to enrich an existing homeschool curriculum. If you are interested in learning more about Abraham Lincoln, we encourage you to visit the library and museum in person or online or enroll in one of the courses mentioned in today’s blog. You’ll be glad you did!
