Today’s Birthday: Benjamin Harrison

It's August 20, and Benjamin Harrison was born on this date in 1833.  He was the 23rd President of the United States and the grandson of William Henry Harrison, who was the 9th President of the United States.  To this day, they are the only grandparent-grandchild combination to hold the office.  If you're a regular reader of this blog, then you know we encourage students to visit historic sites whenever possible.  Although President Harrison's home is not an official presidential library and museum, it is still well worth a visit if you're in Indianapolis.  The home is located just east of downtown and within walking distance of many other attractions.  The house is preserved to look like it was at the time President Harrison and his family lived there.  Visiting historic sites or museums can enhance your accredited high school program or accredited middle school program.  You'll see items that were referenced in your courses, and this type of field trip can bring your distance education high school or middle school closer to home.
