It’s February 22, and George Washington was born on this date in 1732.   His estate is Mount Vernon, which is located in Virginia, not too far from the city which bears his name.  Many times this blog has encouraged you to visit historic sites and presidential libraries and museums as a way of making courses in your accredited middle school program, accredited high school program or independent study program come to life.  Many of these places are very old, however, and that is why at this time Mount Vernon is undergoing a preservation or revitalization project.  These types of projects not only ensure that the facilities will continue to look like they did many years ago but also that future generations will be able to visit them and have the same type of educational experiences as past and present guests.  If you’re in the Washington, D.C. area we encourage you to visit Mount Vernon, but George Washington isn’t the only first president we’re celebrating in this blog this week.  Check back here tomorrow to see what we mean!
