It’s February 1, and poet Langston Hughes was born on this date in 1901. He was a leader of the Harlem Renaissance which was a revival of African-American culture that had its origins in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. By coincidence, the birthday of Langston Hughes occurs on the first day of Black History Month, and so today is a great opportunity to remind you that American School welcomes students of all ethnic backgrounds into our accredited middle school program, accredited high school program and independent study program. We also offer an online African-American Studies course for students who are interested in learning more about Langston Hughes, the Harlem Renaissance and other significant people and events in African-American History. Consider enrolling and adding our African-American Studies course to your curriculum. You will be glad you did.
