It’s February 1, and author and poet Langston Hughes was born on this date in 1902. He was best known as the leader of the Harlem Renaissance, which was a movement that focused on reviving African-American culture, especially in literary and fine arts. In many ways, it is appropriate that his birthday falls on the first day of Black History Month. Today is an opportunity to remind you that American School is happy to welcome African-American students. Some of them, like Tiffany Evans, De’Borah Garner and Wilson Chandler, have made their marks in the entertainment or athletic arenas, but countless others have chosen us because we give them the ability to work on accredited middle school courses and accredited high school courses at their own pace. We are happy to have many African-American students in our accredited middle school program, accredited high school program or independent study program to this day, and we’d be happy to have you join them. You may even wish to add our African-American Studies course to your curriculum. Get February off to a flying start by enrolling today!
