It’s April 15, and Leonardo da Vinci was born on this date in 1452. You might know him best as the painter of Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and Vitruvian Man, but Leonardo da Vinci had many other interests besides painting and sculpting. He was interested in science and engineering and had ideas about flying machines, adding machines and much more. He lived during a period of time known as the Renaissance, during which knowledge was at the forefront. Indeed the phrase “Renaissance man” is a perfect description of Leonardo because he learned so much about so many things. Today the phrase “Renaissance man” or “Renaissance woman” might be used to describe a person who has demonstrated knowledge or talent in a wide variety of ways.
