It’s August 31, and educator Maria Montessori was born on this day in 1870.  She believed in a certain type of educational philosophy that favored children’s talents and interests rather than more formal teaching methods which include exams as ways of measuring academic progress.  Her birthday reminds us that there are many different educational philosophies out there, including homeschooling.  Homeschooling can give students the freedom to work at their own pace in a safe environment, but homeschooling with American School also includes taking courses which are written to standards and completing exams as ways of measuring academic progress.  These things help ensure that students who take our print or online middle school courses or print or online high school courses will be prepared to further their education and/or have the skills necessary to join the workforce after they earn a high school diploma at home.  Thank you for understanding and for taking our courses.  We are happy to chose our educational philosophy for yourself or your family.
