It’s February 19, and astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus was born on this day in 1473. His major accomplishment was creating a model of the universe that had the sun as its center, and science would prove his model to be correct. The sun is in fact the center of the universe rather than the earth as many other scientists once thought. His birthday is a great time to remind you of our Introduction to Astronomy course. It’s one of many online high school courses that would be great additions to your high school diploma program or independent study high school program.
