It’s February 23, and American School founder R.T. Miller was born on this day in 1867. Many times over the years in this blog we’ve wondered what he would think about the American School of today. These days we offer hundreds of accredited middle school courses and accredited high school courses in print and online formats, but in the early days of American School we offered Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Machine Shop Practice and Mechanical Drafting, just to name four courses that were offered because many American School students at that time worked industrial jobs to support their families. It must’ve been difficult at times for R.T. Miller and his colleagues to keep the school going in those very early days, but he and his team persevered, and American School now has served more than 3 million homeschooling students worldwide. One of the best ways to honor our founder on his birthday is to enroll and become a student at the school he founded. If you’re already a student, another way to honor him is to persevere in your courses. Even though things might be difficult at times, it will be worth it to earn a high school diploma at home from American School. We would be proud to count you among our graduates!
