Today’s blog has an update (or lack thereof) about American School’s relationship with the NCAA. Recently a representative from American School spoke with a representative from the NCAA regarding the possibility of having American School’s courses reevaluated for NCAA approval. During the course of the cordial conversation, American School explained its position that students should have the ability to work on their accredited high school courses at their own pace. The NCAA prefers that students complete their high school diploma program in a more structured setting with teachers leading the way. Both American School and the NCAA agreed that it would not be logical for American School to seek NCAA approval at this time because of the different, yet valid, educational positions held by each institution. Should things change in the future we will keep you updated. Until then, our statement about the NCAA which appears on our FAQ page remains valid, and in good conscience we cannot recommend you enroll with us if you wish to play college sports. Thank you for your understanding and for making us your distance education high school.
