Today’s blog announces that American School has added a half-unit Ethnic Studies course to its online high school courses.  In one semester of five units, Ethnic Studies explores the history, culture, and experiences of different ethnic and racial groups.  The course looks at the lives of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, Latin Americans, and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.  By studying the experiences of people in these groups, students will develop a deeper understanding of their contributions, struggles, and achievements.  In this course , students will explore the effects of historical as well as current laws and policies. Many laws and policies have focused on specific groups of people based on race or ethnicity.  Students will learn about the ways in which ethnic groups have shaped and contributed to American society. Students will also explore the obstacles groups have faced while working to gain citizenship and equality.  And through discussion, research, and projects, students will learn how the impacts of race, ethnicity, and identity lead people to have very different lives.  This new Ethnic Studies course would be a great addition to  your online high school diploma program or independent study program, and you can be among the first students to take the course by enrolling today!
