Today’s Anniversary: Gertrude Ederle Swims the English Channel

It’s August 6, and on this date in 1926 Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim the English Channel. In addition to being a major achievement for women, this accomplishment is noteworthy at American School because Gertrude Ederle’s story was told in the first printing of what is now our Writing 1 course. In its original form, the course was called Build Your Writing Skills 1, but no matter the name, we are proud to include it among our high school correspondence courses. Many students have enjoyed the course over the years because it has helped them become better writers, and the course can do the same for you.
